For my new project at university we are working with Liberation Kilt to design a fabric that works well with the Blueheart tartan. Liberation Kilt make specific tartans for different causes, Blueheart tartan is tasing awareness for human trafficking.

"Human trafficking is a mounting global problem and one of the world’s most shameful crimes, affecting the lives of millions of people around the world and robbing them of their dignity. The Blueheart tartan symbolises the collective heartbeat of those who are trafficked" - from the Liberation Kilt website

In my group we are focusing on the children who are trafficked throughout the world. We are mainly looking at the statistics and the road maps. We chose statistics to put on our designs as a shock factor to get people to really think about how serious the issue still is now. We chose the road maps for part of our designs because we wanted to show the journeys these children go on.

The garments we were thinking of making was oversized shirts and jumpers to symbolise school uniforms and they are going to be torn and joint together. We thought of the idea of children putting parents clothes on and maybe mis-fastening the buttons or having the clothes backwards to show how they might out the large clothes on.

For the designs: we are going to have different layers, the first layer will have the road map digitally printed and then stitched and printed on top of it and then a sheer layer with laser cut numbers out of it - numbers from the statistics or the helpline number. We wanted this sheer layer overlaying the bottom layer because the topic is quite hidden so we wanted to show this through our designs.

We have all been working together on our sketchbook work to bounce of each other and get new ideas. It has really helped with this project as it is a short project so we need to be very fast paced.
